Enclosure No. 1.

Captain Superintendent of Police.

Sir,

FRONTIER INCIDENTS.

BUL LEPRÉSELAL

1.

Owing to the number of shooting incidents on the frontier, near Lo Fong, a Punjabi picket of 6 men has, for the past few days, been posted on a mall hill overlocking this portion of the frontier.

Yesterday, 27.8.25, at 2.30 p.m. the usual picket, in charge of Lance Corporal Duman Singh, was keeping observation, when a single shot was fired at them by one of 2 Chinese

soldiers who were seen lying on the hill slope behind the Lo Tong Custome Station, The Indian picket replied with one shot whereupon the two Chinese rose and bloted. Almost immediately afterwards 3 Chinese soldiers emerged from the Customs Station, ran up the hill a little way at the rear, lay dow, and fired about ɓ shots at the Indian picket. The latter promptly replied with 6 rounds, hitting one of the Chinese, mereupon two of them got up and fled leaving the third man lying wounded on hillside.

Sheung Shui was notified by Ta Ku Ling of the incid-

ent and a strong party, with a Lewis Gun, was sent to reinforce the Indian picket. Nothing else happened, however. The wounded

Chinese soldier remained lying on the hillside until after 5 p.m.

when two men with a stretcher came and took him away. He

appeared to be badly wounded in the thigh.

All the shots fired at the Indian picket went low,

the bullets striking the hillside below where the poiket was

posted.

At about 10,30 p.m. 27.8.25, I received an urgent telephone message from Ta Ku Ling, to the affect that that #Station was then being attacked, and apparently surrounded, by

an amed body who had presumably crossed over from Chinese Territory. I at once instructed Sergeant Inspector Barnett to

send to Ta Ku Ling a strong military detachment and 2 Lewis Guns. I then informed you by telephone, after which I want as quickly
